OAKLAND – A federal grand jury has dropped the hammer on nine alleged Oakland Sureño gang members, charging them with racketeering conspiracy tied to two murders, three attempted murders, and a string of related crimes. The indicted men include Marvin Bonilla, Edwin Cano-Merida, Cesar Rolando Lucas-Pablo, Walfer Mendoza-Mendoza, Gonzalo Pablo, Jeronimo ‘Orlando’ Pablo-Carrillo, Mario Pablo-Matias, Raymundo Pablo-Matias, and Carlos Ramiro-Mendoza.
The indictment, unsealed today, names the defendants in connection with two murders, three attempted murders, drug and firearm distribution, and other gang-related activities. Six of them were arrested this morning during a series of law enforcement raids; Lucas-Pablo and Pablo-Carrillo were already behind bars. Gonzalo Pablo is still on the loose, and several of the accused are illegal aliens in the United States.
United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian declared, ‘Enough is enough,’ emphasizing that Oakland’s residents deserve safe neighborhoods free from fear and violence. Missakian also thanked local and federal law enforcement agencies, particularly the FBI and the Oakland Police Department, for their relentless pursuit of justice.
FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Matt Cobo echoed the sentiment, stating, ‘The FBI remains steadfast in our commitment to disrupt violent crime and gang activity that threaten community safety.’ Assistant Chief James Beere of the Oakland Police Department added, ‘We are grateful for the efforts of our law enforcement partners as we seek justice for victims and their families.’
The alleged gang members, according to the indictment, were part of the Oakland Sureños, a local clique of the larger Sureño criminal street gang. The Oakland Sureños operated under various names like SAP and SSL-502, with specific territories and criminal activities.
