NJ Man Gets 11 Years for Kensington Store Robs

PHILADELPHIA – A New Jersey man has been locked away for nearly a decade for a series of armed store robberies in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Jared Stanley, 33, from Lindenwold, was sentenced today to 130 months in federal prison by Judge John F. Murphy, along with five years of supervised release and $1,450 in restitution.

Stanley, who pleaded guilty to all charges in October, was indicted on January 2024 for a Hobbs Act robbery, carrying and using a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He faced additional charges that August for two more Hobbs Act robberies. His violent spree spanned just two weeks.

The first heist occurred at the Birch Mini-Market on January 21, where Stanley forced cash from a cashier after pistol whipping him. The next was at Capricorno Grocery on January 28, where he and an accomplice terrorized an employee to steal $500. Their final hit was at Bonifacios Grocery on February 2, another violent confrontation that resulted in the loss of $500.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative dedicated to reducing gun violence and violent crime. The strategy focuses on fostering community trust, supporting organizations aimed at preventing violence, and strategic law enforcement actions.

The investigation was led by the ATF and the Philadelphia Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Eckert handling the prosecution.
