Hussein Mohamed Farah, Wire Fraud, Minnesota 2024

MINNEAPOLIS — Hussein Mohamed Farah, the executive director of New Vision Foundation in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been hit with serious charges for his alleged role in the staggering $300 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Farah stands accused of one count of wire fraud.

The 73rd defendant charged in this case, Farah is said to have used his position at New Vision Foundation to participate in the fraudulent operation. He allegedly operated two food distribution sites under the Feeding Our Future banner, submitting falsified meal count sheets and attendance rosters to support claims of meals served to children.

Between February 2021 and January 2022, New Vision Foundation reportedly received approximately $2.7 million for meals that were supposedly provided to kids. This amount is a fraction of the total funds siphoned from the scheme, which has shocked both law enforcement and the public alike.

The investigation into this massive fraud was conducted by the FBI, IRS Criminal Investigations, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, highlighting the cross-agency collaboration required to tackle such a complex case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, along with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew S. Ebert, Harry M. Jacobs, and Daniel W. Bobier, are leading the prosecution of this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Baune is responsible for handling the seizure and forfeiture of assets associated with the fraud.

This development comes as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to in order to exploit public trust and financial resources. The community has been placed on high alert, urging vigilance against potential fraudulent activities and a call for justice for those who have been defrauded.
