Matthew C. Ostrowski, Child Pornography Possession, New York 2020

Buffalo, N.Y. – In a chilling development, Matthew C. Ostrowski, 48, from North Tonawanda, NY, has been charged with possession of child pornography. The allegations arise from the recovery of a staggering amount of explicit material during a federal search at his residence.

According to U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., investigators discovered 4,204 image files of suspected child pornography and an additional 8,523 files of child exploitative material on Ostrowski’s desktop computer. The digital evidence also included Google searches for child pornographic content.

Ostrowski’s iPhone was turned over to the authorities after the search, revealing text conversations that appeared to be sexually explicit in nature with minors. One conversation, which spanned two days in January 2019, involved Ostrowski discussing a relationship he believed to be between a minor and an adult teacher. The minor disclosed being 17 years old, prompting Ostrowski’s admission of inappropriate behavior.

In February 2020, investigators seized another iPhone and a laptop from Ostrowski, uncovering 178 image files and five videos of suspected child pornography on the laptop.

The charges against Ostrowski carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. He has appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and been released pending further legal proceedings.

This case is the result of an investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly and the North Tonawanda Police Department under Chief Randy Szukala. Ostrowski is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
