A former nurse at Olean General Hospital has been sentenced to 90 months in prison for his role in a child pornography ring. Willie G. Reid, 47, of Olean, New York, was found guilty of possession of child pornography, with over 600 images discovered on his computer and hard drive. Some of the disturbing content included pre-pubescent children and depictions of violence.
According to the investigation, Reid was arrested in 2013, and at the time, he was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Olean General Hospital. The arrest was the culmination of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department, under the direction of Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti handled the case, stating that Reid’s actions were a betrayal of the trust placed in him as a healthcare professional.
The sentencing of Reid serves as a reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. As a nurse, Reid had access to vulnerable individuals, making his actions even more egregious.
This case is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in combating child exploitation and ensuring that those who commit these heinous crimes are brought to justice.
The investigation into Reid’s activities is a prime example of the collaborative efforts between federal and local agencies in fighting cybercrime and protecting the community.
As U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. stated, the sentence imposed on Reid sends a clear message that those who engage in child pornography will be held accountable for their actions.
