RAVENOUS CITY – The grim tale of Christopher Thomas Dahl, a 29-year-old from Wolcott, New York, reached its conclusion as U.S. Circuit Judge Jonathan A. Kobes sentenced him to 10 years in federal prison for Attempted Enticement of a Minor Using the Internet.
Dahl’s downfall began at the 2021 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally when he was caught in an undercover sex trafficking operation. The predator, using the guise of a minor, lured Dahl into arranging a meeting to commit unlawful acts. With $250 on the line for the rendezvous, law enforcement swooped in, nabbing Dahl as he approached the meet-up location.
The wheels of justice ground on, and Dahl was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2021, facing charges of Attempted Commercial Sex Trafficking of a Minor. His plea of guilty came in August 2022, sealing his fate behind bars.
Beyond the years of imprisonment, Dahl must serve five additional years of supervised release and pay a $100 assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, as well as a $5,000 fine to the Victims of Trafficking Fund. The sex offender registration and notification act also demands his compliance.
Homeland Security Investigations, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Police Department were the investigative forces behind this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins led the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served.
Dahl was remanded to U.S. Marshals Service custody following his sentencing. The sentence sends a chilling message to internet predators: your actions will not go unpunished.
