BANGOR, Maine — A New York man has been slammed with a severe sentence after admitting to illegal firearm possession during a traffic stop in Augusta. Camby Wilson, 22, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Records reveal that on March 2022, Wilson brazenly possessed a loaded firearm with four rounds of ammunition during the traffic stop. His 2019 New York conviction had already stripped him of his right to own a gun.
The budding thug now faces up to 10 years in the slammer and a $250,000 fine. Wilson isn’t out of the woods yet; he’s also staring down three years of supervised release. His sentence will be determined by a federal district judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Augusta Police Department, showcasing a coordinated response to keep Maine’s streets safe.
Wilson’s guilty plea sends a stark reminder that illegal gun possession is no joke in the Pine Tree State. The ATF and local law enforcement are committed to cracking down on such crimes, ensuring justice for victims and communities alike.
Bangor residents are now left to ponder the fate of Wilson as he awaits his sentence, serving as a cautionary tale for those who might be contemplating similar activities in Maine’s rugged terrain.
