New York Man Sentenced for Threats Over the Internet

PHILADELPHIA – A 70-year-old man from Westchester County, New York, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for making threats over the Internet.

Roger Eichenholtz was found guilty of sending threatening communications through interstate commerce. The charges stem from a series of harassing emails sent to his former business partners in Chester County, PA, after losing civil litigation over their business.

According to court documents, Eichenholtz sent a number of threatening emails, including one on September 24, 2013, in which he claimed to have access to a ‘Side Bolt 45.cal with 6 silver bullets that have your name on them.’

The emails were part of a campaign to intimidate and harass his former business partners, who had won the civil litigation. Eichenholtz pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2014.

U.S. District Court Judge Paul S. Diamond also ordered Eichenholtz to serve three years of supervised release, pay a $100 special assessment, and be taken into immediate custody.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael L. Levy.

In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Eichenholtz’s actions were ‘a clear example of the dangers of cyber threats.’ The office praised the work of the FBI and the prosecution team in bringing the case to justice.
