SAN FRANCISCO – Dixis Archaga-Reyes, 27, of Oakland, is headed to federal prison for four years after admitting to flooding San Francisco’s notoriously blighted Tenderloin District with fentanyl and methamphetamine. Senior U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer handed down the 48-month sentence today, a blow to the relentless drug trade choking the city.
Archaga-Reyes, also known as “Pepe,” pleaded guilty last September to four counts stemming from deals with an undercover officer from a joint DEA and San Francisco Police Department task force. The transactions, detailed in court documents, reveal a brazen operation conducted in plain sight, right on the streets of the Tenderloin.
On December 22, 2021, Archaga-Reyes agreed via text message to sell two ounces of fentanyl for $1,000 and two ounces of methamphetamine for $500. The meet was set near 7th and Mission Streets. He arrived, hopped into the undercover officer’s car, and accepted $1,500 cash in exchange for approximately 61.1 grams of fentanyl and 59 grams of meth. It wasn’t a one-time deal. On February 17, 2022, Archaga-Reyes attempted another transaction near 7th and Minna Streets, but was intercepted before the deal could go down.
As Archaga-Reyes left his Oakland apartment that afternoon, he was arrested. Cops found over 500 grams of methamphetamine on his person. A search of his car turned up another 90.5 grams of fentanyl. Back at his apartment, authorities discovered a further 130 grams of fentanyl, over 37 grams of cocaine, and $2,759 in cash – all allegedly profits from his illicit drug sales. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on March 2, 2022, charged Archaga-Reyes with two counts each of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, violations of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(B)(viii) and (vi).
Archaga-Reyes’s four-year prison sentence doesn’t end there. Judge Breyer also ordered four years of supervised release following his incarceration. He’s already been detained since his February arrest and will begin serving his sentence immediately. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Paulson led the prosecution, with assistance from Soana Katoa, Leeya Kekona, and Mark DiCenzo. This case is another example of the DEA and San Francisco PD working to dismantle the networks poisoning the Tenderloin.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to combat the fentanyl and methamphetamine crisis plaguing San Francisco and beyond. The sentence serves as a warning: pushing poison on the streets comes with a steep price.
