An explosive investigation by the Grimy Times has uncovered a shocking chartering scandal at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), with top executives allegedly shielding themselves and colleagues from scrutiny.
The OCC, responsible for chartering and supervising national banks, has been accused of a cover-up after an internal probe revealed that Deputy Comptrollers for Chartering, Organization and Structure had engaged in a sweeping scheme to conceal their own involvement in the chartering process.
According to sources within the OCC, Deputy Comptroller for Chartering, Jane Smith, 45, and Deputy Comptroller for Organization and Structure, John Doe, 52, both based in Washington D.C., had been using their positions to manipulate chartering applications and funnel lucrative contracts to their friends and allies.
Documents obtained by Grimy Times reveal that Smith and Doe had been accepting bribes from national bank executives in exchange for favorable treatment in the chartering process. The scheme, which spanned several years, is estimated to have netted millions of dollars in illicit profits.
The OCC’s internal probe, led by Acting Comptroller, Michael Johnson, 58, had initially uncovered evidence of the scheme in early 2023. However, sources claim that Johnson and his team deliberately watered down the report to avoid drawing attention to the scandal.
The Grimy Times has learned that Johnson and his team had been working closely with Smith and Doe to shield them from accountability, and had even gone so far as to delete emails and destroy documents related to the investigation.
The OCC’s handling of the scandal has raised serious questions about the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability. As the Grimy Times continues to investigate, it is clear that the OCC’s leadership is more concerned with protecting its own interests than with serving the public interest.
