A Mexican national has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a human smuggling conspiracy that transported illegal aliens through the United States. Octavio Hernandez-Hernandez, 50, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport illegal aliens within the United States and was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker on July 10, 2025.
According to information presented in court, Hernandez-Hernandez conspired with others to transport illegal aliens from the Texas border to other locations throughout the United States. He provided instructions and directions to those who were transporting the illegal aliens, including some from Smith County. Hernandez-Hernandez admitted to conspiring to smuggle at least 100 illegal aliens, including unaccompanied minors.
The case against Hernandez-Hernandez is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The investigation into Hernandez-Hernandez was conducted by the FBI, Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Texas Department of Public Safety-Criminal Investigation Division. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Jackson.
