Ohio Man Indicted in eBay Fraud Scam

PITTSBURGH – The grim halls of justice were rocked as Atticus Sliter-Matias, 27, from South Euclid, Ohio, faced a federal grand jury’s charges for an elaborate eBay fraud scheme. According to Soo C. Song, Acting United States Attorney, the two-count indictment was unsealed on February 7.

From June 2015 until July 5, 2016, Sliter-Matias allegedly used multiple eBay accounts to peddle electronic devices and other goods. However, his modus operandi was far from honest – he shipped empty packages through the United States Postal Service instead of the actual items. With proceeds totaling over $500,000, Sliter-Matias indulged in a penchant for gold and silver bars, leaving victims out of pocket.

The charges against Sliter-Matias carry a heavy penalty, with a maximum sentence of 40 years in the slammer, a fine that could reach half-a-million dollars, or both. The severity of the actual punishment will depend on the gravity of his offenses and any prior criminal history he may have.

Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is leading the charge against Sliter-Matias, representing the government in this case. The investigation that led to the indictment was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, a testament to the thoroughness of their pursuit of justice.

It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. Until proven guilty, Atticus Sliter-Matias is presumed innocent in the court of public opinion and in the eyes of the law.
