MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Dustin James Coggins, a 34-year-old man from Okemah, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country.
The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Okemah Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which revealed that on August 2, 2024, Coggins aggressively tailgated another vehicle and pointed his rifle at the driver in Okfuskee County, within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Coggins pleaded guilty to the charge on January 14, 2025. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson represented the United States in the case.
The Honorable John F. Heil, III, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing. Coggins will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
The case highlights the dangers of reckless and aggressive driving, which can have serious consequences. It also underscores the importance of law enforcement working together to keep communities safe.
