Oklahoma Inmate Ramirez Sentenced to 26 Years for Prison Meth Ring Lead

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Joshua A. Ramirez, a 39-year-old inmate at Lawton Correctional Facility in Oklahoma, has been handed down a 26-year sentence without parole for orchestrating a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy from his prison cell, according to the Department of Justice USAO.

U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips delivered the stiff sentence on May 7, citing Ramirez’s extensive criminal history as a career criminal. Ramirez had pleaded guilty on Aug. 16, 2023, to leading a conspiracy to distribute meth in Greene and Polk Counties, utilizing drug couriers for transport and proceeds collection.

The court documents revealed that Ramirez was responsible for distributing an astonishing 907 kilograms of meth. During the time of his crime, Ramirez was serving a state felony sentence for distributing a controlled substance in Oklahoma, awaiting transfer to federal custody to start his 20-year sentence for another drug distribution charge in Texas.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica R. Eatmon prosecuted the case, with the investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, the Springfield Police Department, ATF, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and El Dorado Springs Police Department.

This sentence sends a stark message about the lengths some will go to continue criminal activity from behind bars, underscoring the necessity for vigilant oversight and enforcement of prison security measures.
