Oklahoma Man Sentenced for Firearms Violations
TULSA, Okla.—A Louisiana man was sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, announced Danny C. Williams Sr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
Freddie Allen Hayes, 34, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for his crimes, and three years of supervised release following his prison sentence by United States District Court Judge Claire V. Eagan.
According to authorities, on June 18, 2013, the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on Hayes. However, Hayes fled in a vehicle, leading law enforcement on a car chase until he crashed into a tree.
An investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) revealed that Hayes had been in possession of a pistol, a shotgun, and numerous rounds of ammunition at the time of his arrest.
Hayes has multiple felony convictions, which led to the enhanced charges for his firearms possession. This case was investigated by the ATF and the Tulsa Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorneys Neal C. Hong and Gary L. Davis II prosecuted the case. Freddie Allen Hayes’ prison sentence is a significant blow to those who would seek to possess firearms while being convicted felons.
Hayes’ actions put himself and others at risk, and his punishment reflects the severity of his crimes.
