Omaha Woman Sentenced for Meth Distribution

Council Bluffs, IA – In a shocking turn of events, Cindy Anne Ortiz, 46 years old from Omaha, Nebraska, was handed a federal prison sentence of 156 months for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The grim saga began on November 21, 2021, when law enforcement responded to the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The officers discovered an unresponsive male, later pronounced dead, and were alerted by Ortiz that he was in her hotel room. A subsequent search of the room and Ortiz’s belongings revealed a chilling cache: 643 grams of methamphetamine, empty baggies, a scale, and other drug paraphernalia.

Ortiz faced a jury in September 2022, resulting in a guilty verdict. Her actions led to her harsh sentence, which includes five years of supervised release upon her release from prison.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Council Bluffs Police Department and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced the sentence, emphasizing the gravity of Ortiz’s offense.

“The sentence handed down to Cindy Anne Ortiz reflects the severity of her crime and the commitment of federal law enforcement to combating drug trafficking in our community,” said Westphal.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of drug-related activities, underscoring the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect the public from the dangers of drug abuse and distribution.
