Six Latin King Gang Members Sentenced For Racketeering in Indiana
GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a major blow to the Latin Kings street gang, six members were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for racketeering conspiracy in Indiana federal court.
The sentencing follows a lengthy investigation by federal authorities, who charged the defendants with participating in a racketeering conspiracy that spanned multiple states. According to court records, the defendants were part of a well-organized street gang with specific leadership and regional chapters.
The indictment charged that the Latin Kings enforced its rules and promoted discipline among its members, prospects, and associates through murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, assault, and threats against those who violated the rules or posed a threat to the gang.
Among the defendants sentenced was Oscar Gonzalez, 23, of Hammond, who was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity and conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribute cocaine and marijuana.
Other defendants sentenced include Martin Anaya, 42, of Chicago, who was sentenced to 360 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release, and Jason Ortiz, 29, of Chicago, who was sentenced to 300 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release.
Jermaine Ellis, 23, of Chicago, was sentenced to 205 months imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release, while Antonio Martinez, Jr., 42, of Chicago, a former officer with the Chicago Police Department, was sentenced to 144 months imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release.
Hiluterio Chavez, 37, of Chicago, was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity.
The Latin Kings is a nationwide gang that originated in Chicago and has branched out throughout the United States. The gang’s activities have been linked to numerous violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to murder.
