WHITE PLAINS, NY – Fifteen individuals are facing federal charges today after a sweeping investigation revealed a sophisticated cocaine trafficking operation masked by a seemingly legitimate music company. Authorities allege ‘Outta They League’ (OTL) wasn’t pushing beats, but kilos, throughout Southern and Central New York. Twelve defendants were taken into custody today and are expected to appear in White Plains federal court. Three remain at large.
The indictment, unsealed today, names MALCOLM KINYON, a/k/a “M.A.,” as the central figure. Prosecutors claim KINYON used OTL, a registered corporation involved in music production, as a front to facilitate wholesale cocaine transactions and launder the illicit profits. The organization, also calling itself OTL, allegedly distributed multiple kilograms of cocaine monthly, primarily around Poughkeepsie.
“The defendants charged today allegedly used a music company, ‘Outta They League,’ as a front to run their drug trafficking business,” declared U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. “These arrests take ‘Outta They League’ out of the business of drugs and violence.” Bharara praised the collaborative effort of the FBI, New York State Police, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York, and local law enforcement agencies.
FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. highlighted the evolving tactics of drug traffickers. “The average drug dealer can’t peddle his wares on the street anymore without someone seeing it, so they’ve found ways to hide their drugs and money using legitimate businesses,” Sweeney stated. “The one thing this group of defendants allegedly didn’t take into consideration, bank accounts don’t lie.” The Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, Sweeney added, is adept at uncovering these hidden criminal enterprises.
Law enforcement officials from the state and local levels echoed the sentiment. NYSP Superintendent George P. Beach II emphasized the commitment to removing dangerous drugs from the streets, while Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian H. Anderson called it “a great victory” for law enforcement. City of Poughkeepsie Acting Police Chief Thomas Pape lauded the coordinated effort and Bharara’s dedication to prosecuting criminal activity.
In addition to MALCOLM KINYON, the indictment names the following defendants: the remaining twelve in custody will be named upon court appearance. Still at large are DAVION McADAMS and ANTON MILLER. The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests are possible. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available.
