Over 10,000 Charged with Immigration-Related Crimes in Arizona 2025

PHOENIX, Ariz. – In a massive crackdown on immigration-related crimes, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona has charged over 10,140 individuals since January 20, 2025. The charges range from illegal re-entry into the United States to human smuggling and assaults on federal officers.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the charges include 5,128 cases of aliens illegally re-entering the United States and 4,260 cases of aliens entering the United States illegally. The office also charged 638 cases against 734 individuals responsible for smuggling illegal aliens into and within the District of Arizona.

Additionally, federal prosecutors charged 17 defendants for assaults on federal officers related to immigration enforcement. These cases were referred or supported by federal law enforcement partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

“President Trump promised to secure our border, and the District of Arizona has delivered,” said U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine. “Thanks to the leadership of the President and Attorney General Bondi, law enforcement and federal prosecutors have been empowered to uphold the laws they swore to protect, including immigration laws. Through increased presence, a 97% prosecution rate, and commitments to real criminal penalties, fewer people are crossing the border illegally so fewer traffickers can exploit them. The District of Arizona has proven that the dedicated men and women of the U.S. Attorney’s Office will go as far as they must to secure our homeland.”

The cases were part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Since March 7th, the District of Arizona has released its weekly immigration prosecution numbers on its website. The public can follow the progress of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in strengthening the border and upholding the Rule of Law.
