Oxford Man Locks Up for 7 Years in Gun Crime
Raleigh, NC – S Daques Shorter, an Oxford man, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in a shooting at the Oxford Food Mart.
On April 6, 2020, the Oxford Police responded to a report of gunshots at the Oxford Food Mart. Witnesses stated that several men, including Shorter, were engaged in an argument. Shorter later retrieved a firearm and shot at two men. Video surveillance captured the incident confirming the witnesses’ account.
Spent shell casings were recovered on the scene and the firearm used by Shorter was recovered nearby. Shorter is a convicted felon, having prior convictions for Breaking and Entering, and Attempted Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon. He is also a validated member of the United Blood Nation street gang.
In a statement, G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, praised the efforts of the Oxford Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Dodson for their work in prosecuting the case.
U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle handed down the 84-month sentence. The case was investigated by the Oxford Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Dodson.
Shorter pled guilty to the charges on June 8, 2021. The case is now closed, but the impact of Shorter’s actions will be felt for years to come.
