Ozair Pereira, Heroin Trafficking, Massachusetts 2019

A devastating blow has been dealt to the streets of Brockton, Massachusetts, as Ozair Pereira, a 31-year-old local resident, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for his involvement in a large-scale heroin trafficking operation.

Pereira’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton on Thursday, October 17, 2019. In addition to his prison term, Pereira was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release.

Pereira’s guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute heroin came in May 2019, following a lengthy investigation by federal authorities.

During the investigation, agents intercepted telephone calls between Djuna Goncalves and multiple individuals, including Pereira, which revealed that Goncalves allegedly worked with others to distribute large quantities of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, and marijuana from a base of operations at 12 Addison Avenue in Brockton.

According to court documents, Pereira ordered heroin from Goncalves and agents observed Goncalves deliver the drugs to Pereira in Brockton. Pereira was subsequently indicted, along with Goncalves and eight other defendants, on December 12, 2018, in a wide-ranging drug conspiracy.

Pereira’s sentence marks the second in this case, as authorities continue to crack down on the city’s illicit drug trade. The investigation was led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshal Service, the Massachusetts State Police, the Brockton Police Department, and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Pohl and Alathea Porter of Lelling’s Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the victims of Pereira’s crimes and sending a strong message to those involved in the city’s illicit drug trade.
