Panama City Felon Sentenced for Gun Possession

Sammy Lee Underwood III, a 22-year-old from Panama City, Florida, has been convicted of being a felon in possession of a loaded .380 caliber pistol. The verdict was announced by Pamela C. Marsh, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Underwood’s trial revealed that in May 2014, he fled police after leading them on a high-speed chase through Panama City’s Glenwood neighborhood. Officers ultimately found Underwood’s abandoned vehicle collided with a residence, where they discovered the firearm and illegal substances. DNA evidence linked Underwood to the weapon.

Underwood now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for June 3, 2015, at the United States Courthouse in Panama City.
