Mason City Man Pleads Guilty to Child Exploitation and Gun Crimes

A shocking case of child exploitation has come to light in Mason City, Iowa, as 20-year-old Parker Jon Thompson pleads guilty to multiple crimes.

Thompson was convicted of sexual exploitation of children, possession of child pornography, and possession of a stolen firearm after a federal court hearing in Cedar Rapids.

The evidence presented in court revealed that in June 2025, Thompson helped his friends plan a burglary at a gun shop in Mason City, resulting in the theft of several guns. During the investigation, law enforcement officers found child pornography on Thompson’s phone, and further investigation revealed that he had recorded multiple children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

At a plea hearing, Thompson admitted to using, persuading, inducing, and enticing minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct between March 2024 and September 2025. He also admitted to possessing depictions of child pornography between June 2024 and April 2025, and possessing a stolen firearm in June 2025.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case is also part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

Thompson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 50 years’ imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, $77,300 in special assessments, and a lifetime term of supervised release following any imprisonment. Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Thompson remains in custody of the United States Marshal.
