CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In a stark testament to the fight against drug trafficking in West Virginia, Ashley Kawczynski, 32, of Parkersburg, was today sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Kawczynski’s fall from grace began on July 5, 2022, when police responding to a domestic violence threat at her residence discovered over three hundred grams of meth and fentanyl, as well as two semi-automatic handguns. She confessed her intent to distribute the substances and admitted using the firearms for protection, her drugs, and her drug profits.
Months of investigation had led Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force and local law enforcement to Kawczynski’s doorstep. Between February and July 2022, she conspired with others, selling fentanyl on four separate occasions to an informant.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office credited the FBI, the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police for their relentless pursuit of justice.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentence, praising the agencies involved for their efforts. Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the harsh penalty, while Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe prosecuted the case with determination.
