SPOKANE, WA – Rosalio Emmanuel Sanchez, 33, of Pasco, Washington, is headed to federal prison for over two decades after a jury found him guilty of flooding Eastern Washington with poison. Sanchez was sentenced today to 270 months – 22 years and six months – on each of two concurrent counts related to a massive methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking operation. Senior United States District Judge Wm Fremming Nielsen didn’t stop there, tacking on an additional 27 months for violating court supervision from a previous drug bust, making the total sentence over 22 years.
The case, brought by United States Attorney Joseph H. Harrington for the Eastern District of Washington, revealed Sanchez was a key player in the Bueno Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO), a known extension of the notorious Sinaloa cartel. Released from a previous federal stint in late 2015, Sanchez immediately dove back into the trade, pushing pound quantities of methamphetamine and heroin throughout the Spokane area. The operation wasn’t small-time; investigators seized over 50 pounds of methamphetamine and 25 kilograms of cocaine during the investigation. Judge Nielsen made it clear at sentencing: the Bueno DTO was responsible for importing and distributing hundreds of pounds of narcotics into the Eastern District of Washington.
“This isn’t just about drugs; it’s about the devastation these operations bring to our communities,” Harrington stated. “The United States Attorney’s Office commends the relentless work of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Spokane Police Department, and Oregon State Patrol. Their seamless partnership was critical to dismantling this network and bringing Sanchez to justice.” The successful prosecution sends a blunt message: dealing death for profit won’t be tolerated.
The takedown of Sanchez is part of a larger, ongoing Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF provides vital funding to federal and state agencies battling complex drug crimes. This particular operation was spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, demonstrating a multi-agency commitment to choking off the supply of illicit narcotics.
The investigation itself was a collaborative effort, with the Tri-Cities Resident Office of the DEA, the Spokane Resident Office of Homeland Security, the Spokane Police Department, and the Oregon State Patrol all contributing resources and manpower. Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie Van Marter and Richard Barker handled the prosecution, building a rock-solid case that convinced a jury of Sanchez’s guilt.
Sanchez will first serve his 270-month sentence, then face another ten years of court supervision upon his release.
