NEW ORLEANS, LA – Patricia Hart, 24, of Texas, has confessed to a chilling conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, federal prosecutors revealed Wednesday. The guilty plea brings a step closer to justice in a case marked by brutality and calculated control of a vulnerable victim.
According to court documents, Hart and her boyfriend, Gregory Massey, were initially arrested in New Orleans back in April 2022. While Massey was cooling his heels in jail, Hart didn’t hesitate to continue the criminal enterprise. Investigators intercepted recorded jail calls revealing a detailed plan to continue exploiting a victim, demonstrating a callous disregard for human life.
The specifics are particularly disturbing. Hart conspired with Massey to lock the victim outside, physically assault her, and deliberately withhold her identification documents – effectively stripping her of any means of escape or self-determination. Adding to the terror, the pair allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm, solidifying their control through fear and intimidation.
Hart’s guilty plea carries significant weight. She now faces a maximum penalty of life in prison when sentenced on November 7th. Beyond potential imprisonment, Hart will also be required to register as a sex offender and adhere to all associated notification requirements, ensuring public safety.
The case was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Louisiana State Police. Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans for the Eastern District of Louisiana jointly announced the guilty plea.
The prosecution is being handled by Trial Attorney Melissa E. Bücher of the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria M. Carboni for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The investigation highlights the persistent threat of human trafficking and the dedication of federal agencies to dismantling these predatory operations. The sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, taking into account U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant statutory factors.
