FRESNO, CA – Patrick Feaster, 23, of Fresno, is headed to federal prison for 3 years and 5 months after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence comes as a result of ‘Operation No Fly Zone,’ a sprawling investigation targeting a surge in shootings and homicides plaguing the city.
According to court documents, investigators zeroed in on Feaster on March 16, 2022, suspecting he was about to pick up a handgun and extended magazine. When officers attempted a traffic stop shortly after he left the residence, Feaster bolted, ditching his car and taking off on foot with a bag. A pursuit ensued, ending in his arrest and the recovery of the bag’s contents: a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a high-capacity magazine.
The bust wasn’t just about the gun itself. Feaster’s prior conviction for first-degree robbery made firearm possession illegal for him. The case highlights a persistent problem in Fresno – individuals with violent criminal histories continuing to access and carry weapons.
“Operation No Fly Zone” wasn’t a solo effort. The investigation involved a massive coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Fresno Police Department, and numerous other state and local entities. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin J. Gilio and Antonio J. Pataca led the prosecution.
Federal officials framed the sentencing as part of the broader Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program designed to foster collaboration between law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime. The Department of Justice recently relaunched PSN, emphasizing community trust, preventative measures, and strategic enforcement.
This case also falls under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program, a multi-agency effort aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations. While the immediate charge was unlawful firearm possession, investigators are likely examining any potential connections to larger criminal networks operating in the Fresno area. The investigation continues, suggesting more arrests could be on the horizon.
