Patrick J. Wegner, Possession of Child Pornography, Connecticut 2007

A 36-year-old man from Bristol, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating the conditions of his supervised release.

Patrick J. Wegner, 36, of Bristol, was sentenced to 11 months of imprisonment by Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven for violating the conditions of his supervised release.

Wegner was convicted in 2007 of possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.

As special conditions of his supervised release, Wegner was required to register as a sex offender and not associate with any child under the age of 18 except in the presence of a responsible adult who is aware of the nature of his offense and who has been approved by the United States Probation Office.

However, on March 11, 2013, the U.S. Probation Office learned that Wegner was residing with a woman who was babysitting two children, at the children’s home, while the children’s parents were away on vacation. The parents of the children were not aware that a registered sex offender was staying at their home, and Wegner had not notified the U.S. Probation Office or the Connecticut State Police Sex Offender Registry of his new address.

This is not the first time Wegner has violated the conditions of his supervised release. On April 29, 2010, Judge Burns sentenced Wegner to two months of imprisonment after he was found to have violated his supervised release by being in the presence of children without supervision on more than one occasion in February and March 2010, and by not being truthful when questioned by a U.S. Probation officer.

Wegner was taken into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his 11-month sentence.

This prosecution is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which is aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
