Paxton Carrier, Conversion of Mortgaged Property, Nebraska 2018

A Nebraska man has been sentenced for his role in a scheme to convert mortgaged property, leaving a government agency without payment.

Paxton Carrier, 24, of Harrison, Nebraska, was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment for his part in the Conversion of Mortgaged Property.

Carrier was charged on April 18, 2017, and pleaded guilty on November 3, 2017. The charge related to Carrier obtaining a loan from the Farm Services Agency (FSA) and then selling a large portion of the collateral mortgaged by the loan.

Instead of paying the FSA loan as required after the sale of collateral, Carrier used the proceeds to pay other debts and purchase personal items. Carrier never made a payment on the FSA loan.

The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General, United States Department of Agriculture. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.

Carrier was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $275,403.52 in restitution to the Farm Service Agency.

Paxton Carrier, age 24, was sentenced on February 7, 2018, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota.
