Pearl Resident Pleads Guilty to Theft of Government Funds
Jason Zebert, 45, of Pearl, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for theft of government funds, according to U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis. Zebert was also ordered to repay $198,669.14 to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
As an attorney and fiduciary representing veterans, Zebert was entrusted with funds solely for spending on behalf of the veterans he represented. Instead, he stole from those he was supposed to protect.
The case was investigated by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Pat Lemon.
U.S. District Judge Carlton W. Reeves, Jr. handed down the sentence, bringing an end to Zebert’s scheme to defraud the veterans he was supposed to serve.
Zebert’s crimes are a stark reminder of the importance of protecting those who have served our country. His actions are a betrayal of the trust placed in him.
Victims of federal crimes, including those affected by Zebert’s actions, are entitled to compassionate, fair, and respectful treatment. If you believe you have been a victim of fraud, contact the National Center for Disaster Fraud at (866) 720-5721 or disaster@leo.gov.
