Pedro Cruz, a 40-year-old Rochester man, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for possession of child pornography. This sentence is the result of a thorough investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force.
According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., Cruz was convicted of possession of child pornography and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci. The investigation into Cruz began when law enforcement officers discovered the downloading of child pornography related to a website and a particular user name.
The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at Cruz’s residence, where forensic previews of computer-related items revealed a massive collection of child pornography. Thousands of images were found on a laptop computer, thousands more on a desktop computer, over 30,000 images on an external hard drive, and over 20,000 images on various CDs and DVDs.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola handled the case and stated that the evidence against Cruz was overwhelming. The sentencing is a culmination of the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen.
The task force consists of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Rochester Police Department, the Greece Police Department, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations. The cooperation and dedication of these agencies led to the successful prosecution of Cruz and the removal of a serious threat to the community.
The sentence of 97 months in prison serves as a warning to those who engage in the possession and distribution of child pornography. The justice system will not tolerate such heinous crimes, and those who commit them will be held accountable.
