Defendants Sentenced to 21 Months in Federal Prison for Stealing Military Equipment
Ocala, Florida – In a shocking case of corruption, Pedro Luis Infantes (47, Ocala) and his son, Luis Rafael Infantes (21, Elizabethtown, KY), have been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for their roles in a scheme to steal military equipment worth $153,500.
According to court records, the father and son duo pleaded guilty last year to theft of government property, a charge that carries significant penalties. The plea agreements revealed that the two had been involved in a scheme to steal military-grade equipment, including 17 thermal-imaging monoculars, rifle cleaning kits, and other items.
The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, revealed that Luis Infantes, an active-duty soldier for the United States Army, had stolen the equipment from the Fort Knox military installation. A subsequent search of a storage unit rented by Pedro Infantes revealed additional stolen military equipment, including an aviation helmet, boxes of batteries, firearm accessories, and tactical gear.
When Pedro Infantes attempted to complete the transaction with a confidential source who was working in cooperation with law enforcement, he was arrested and interviewed by the FBI. He then provided false statements to agents about how he had acquired the military items and how the serial numbers on the items had been removed.
The case against Pedro and Luis Infantes was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Bodnar, Jr. The sentence of 21 months in federal prison is a significant blow to the duo, who had hoped to profit from their scheme to steal military equipment.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting government property and the severe consequences that can result from such actions. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to holding accountable those who would seek to profit from the theft of government property.
The sentencing of Pedro and Luis Infantes is a significant milestone in this case, and it serves as a warning to others who may be considering similar actions. The case will continue to be monitored by law enforcement, and any further developments will be reported in these pages.
