Perkins Sentenced for Robbing Four Banks in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – In a stunning turn of events, Joseph Perkins, 31, has been locked behind bars for his brazen two-week bank heist spree across the City of Brotherly Love. United States Attorney David Metcalf revealed today that the ruthless perpetrator was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release by Judge Karen S. Marston.

Perkins, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was indicted in October 2024 for four counts of bank robbery after pleading guilty in March. His reign of terror began on August 26, 2024, when he struck at the Citizens Bank branch inside the ACME Market at 2497 Aramingo Avenue.

The spree continued with a daring theft at the Citizens Bank branch located at 2101 Cottman Avenue on August 29. His next target was the TD Bank branch on Roosevelt Boulevard on September 4, followed by another TD Bank heist at 2267 East Butler Street on September 7.

Perkins made off with cash in the first three robberies but narrowly escaped empty-handed from the final caper. The Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force led the investigation that ultimately brought Perkins to justice, with Assistant United States Attorney Kwambina Coker spearheading the prosecution.

This is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by violent criminals in our communities. The sentence handed down today sends a clear message: bank robbers will be held accountable for their actions.

Perkins’s case serves as a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement in keeping our streets safe and securing justice for victims of crime. His sentence is a stark contrast to his former life of lawlessness, and it stands as a cautionary tale for anyone contemplating similar criminal activity.
