Perla Roman Sentenced to 27 Months for Cocaine Trafficking
WAYNESBORO, PA – In a stunning turn of events, Perla Roman, 32, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for her role in a massive cocaine trafficking conspiracy.
According to court documents, Roman and her co-conspirators distributed cocaine hydrochloride in the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia between 2010 and 2013. The organization obtained the illicit substance in Chicago, Illinois, and transported it back to the Waynesboro area before distributing it in surrounding counties, as well as Maryland and Virginia.
U.S. Attorney Peter Smith stated that Roman’s actions had a significant impact on the community, and her sentence reflects the severity of her crimes. ‘This case is a prime example of the devastating effects of cocaine trafficking on our communities,’ Smith said.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith A. Taylor. Roman pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride on July 28, 2014.
Under federal sentencing guidelines, the judge is required to consider a range of factors, including the nature and seriousness of the offense, the defendant’s history and characteristics, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.
