A brazen heist shook the Great Northern railway system on Tuesday morning, May 12, 1908. Perrine, the express messenger, was left battered and bewildered after two ruthless robbers commandeered the express car near the King Street station in Seattle, Washington. As Perrine stooped over the unlocked strong box, one of the attackers snatched his revolver and struck him with it, knocking him unconscious. The perpetrators, dressed in brakemen’s uniforms, quickly gained access to the express car, overpowering Perrine and escaping with a sum of money estimated between $11,000 to $110,000.
