A dramatic confrontation on the Navajo Nation in Vanderwagon, New Mexico, has led to a guilty plea by Perris Jeremiah Arthur, 36. The incident, which unfolded on May 1, 2023, resulted in Arthur firing shots and threatening a man with a rifle.

According to court records, Arthur initiated a confrontation at John Doe’s residence in Vanderwagon. The situation escalated when Arthur retrieved a rifle from his ATV and fired two shots into the RV.

Arthur’s actions did not end there. He then pointed the weapon directly at John Doe, threatening him with the firearm. This disturbing sequence of events has left the community shaken.

The investigation into this case was handled by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Navajo Nation Department of Investigation and Department of Criminal Investigations.

Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case, with U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Philip Russell, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, making the announcement.

At sentencing, Perris Jeremiah Arthur faces a minimum of seven years and up to life in prison. Upon his release from prison, he will be subject to up to five years of supervised release. This harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in violent behavior.
