A Charleston man has been sentenced to 7 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Perry JaQuan Jackson, 26, was arrested on March 3, 2022, at the Northwoods Mall in North Charleston after law enforcement located him on outstanding state bench warrants related to weapons and narcotics violations.
According to evidence presented to the court, Jackson told officers he had a gun under his vehicle’s driver seat. Officers searched the car and located the gun, another gun in the glovebox, marijuana, and cash. Later testing confirmed Jackson’s DNA was located on the gun under the driver seat.
Jackson has multiple felony convictions on his record, including previous state weapon convictions.
United States District Judge David C. Norton sentenced Jackson to 7 years imprisonment to be followed by 3 years of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The case was investigated by the FBI Columbia Field Office, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Charleston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Lietzow is prosecuting the case.
