A South Carolina man has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported.
Julian Mesino Calletano, 54, an illegal alien residing in Hardeeville, has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervised release, for illegal reentry of an alien after removal, following a conviction of an aggravated felony.
The evidence obtained in the investigation revealed that on an unknown date Calletano, a native and citizen of Mexico, illegally entered the United States at an unknown location. He was deported in November 2013 after serving a 70-month sentence for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute at least 5 kilograms of cocaine.
Following his deportation, Calletano illegally entered the United States again, at an unknown location. He was again discovered by ICE officers, this time in the Jasper County Detention Center in Ridgeland, South Carolina in 2024.
United States District Judge Richard M. Gergel sentenced Calletano to 24 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Calletano will be ordered to be deported after serving his sentence.
This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dean H. Secor is prosecuting the case.
Calletano was also convicted in 2023 on a drug charge in Butte County, California.
