Cederick Dion Dixon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, South Carolina 2023

Cederick Dion Dixon, a 38-year-old man from Fort Mill, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Dixon’s sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis.

On January 15, 2023, a South Carolina Highway Patrol state trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Dixon for a defective equipment violation. The trooper identified Dixon as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle and discovered that his driver’s license was suspended as a habitual traffic offender.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a small baggie of marijuana in the driver’s side door handle, an open bottle of liquor in the backseat, a firearm, 9mm ammunition, and an assortment of narcotics inside a backpack in the front seat. Dixon, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition due to prior convictions, was arrested as a result of the discovery.

Dixon’s prior convictions include attempted armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon, distribution of crack cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, which led to his prohibition on firearm and ammunition possession.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

The program, launched in May 2021, focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results. Dixon’s sentence is part of this ongoing effort to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
