Falmouth Bank Robber Petar Petyoshin Faces 25 Years in Prison
BOSTON, Massachusetts – Petar Petyoshin, a 40-year-old man from Edgartown, Massachusetts, has been charged with the armed robbery of a Rockland Trust Bank in Falmouth on April 8, 2023.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Petyoshin allegedly entered the bank wearing a blonde wig, brandished a firearm, and placed a purported bomb on the counter. He then zip-tied bank employees and customers, demanding over $20,000 in cash. Surveillance footage captured Petyoshin fleeing the scene in a victim’s vehicle.
Investigations revealed that Petyoshin had arrived on Martha’s Vineyard on the morning of the robbery and had departed later that day. His van was identified as the vehicle used in the heist. Petyoshin was subsequently arrested on state charges on May 23, 2023, and was found to be in possession of thousands of dollars in cash, zip ties, and clothing items matching the description of the robber.
A search of Petyoshin’s residence uncovered 57 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition. The same jacket worn by the robber was also recovered from Petyoshin’s personal locker at the Oak Bluffs Water Department where he is employed.
Petyoshin faces a charge of armed bank robbery, which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, up to five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. He currently remains in state custody and will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.
Petyoshin’s business, Dapper Martha’s Vineyard, was also implicated in the investigation, with photos on his Facebook page showing the same clothing items worn by the robber.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
