Flushing, NY – May 17, 1909. In a dramatic scene at the Supreme Court, Captain Peter C. Hains Jr. of the U.S. Army was sentenced to a hard labor prison term for the manslaughter of William E. Annis at the Bayside Yacht Club last August. Justice Garrot aon, presiding over the case, rejected counsel John F. McIntyre’s pleas for a new trial, citing that the verdict was in line with the weight of evidence.
