Drug Trafficking Plagues Mineral County: Two Residents Indicted on Serious Charges
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a shocking turn of events, Phillip Arnold Bennett and Erica Lucinda Taylor, both residents of Piedmont, West Virginia, have been indicted on drug distribution and firearms charges. United States Attorney Bill Powell announced the indictment, which marks a significant blow to the community’s fight against narcotics.
Bennett, a 30-year-old individual, is facing a multitude of charges, including Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin, Fentanyl, and Methamphetamine. He is also accused of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Distribution of Methamphetamine, and several counts of Distribution of Heroin. Furthermore, Bennett is charged with Aiding and Abetting Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Heroin, and Methamphetamine, as well as Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl and Heroin. Taylor, also 30 years old, is charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin, Fentanyl, and Methamphetamine, as well as several counts of Aiding and Abetting Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl and Heroin. She is also accused of Distribution of Heroin and Aiding and Abetting Distribution of Fentanyl. The potential sentence for Taylor’s charges includes up to 20 years incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000 for each drug count.
The case against Bennett and Taylor was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara K. Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the cases on behalf of the government, with the Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force and the West Virginia State Police providing critical assistance in the investigation.
