United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced the sentence of Misty Stahlhoefer, 42, from Pierre, South Dakota, who has been convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. On July 21, 2025, U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte sentenced Stahlhoefer to 21 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment.
The sentencing is part of a major drug distribution conspiracy that began in June 2023 and continued until September 2024. Misty Stahlhoefer, along with co-defendant Heather Stahlhoefer, was identified as the source of supply for methamphetamine distributed to several individuals in the Pierre area, including Whitney Marrowbone, Wendy Mealer, Brent Larvie, David Rinehart, and Heath Choal. The conspiracy involved approximately 30 to 35 pounds of methamphetamine.
“Thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, Misty Stahlhoefer and her local co-conspirators are facing significant federal prison terms for their role in drug trafficking,” said U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. “Drug traffickers should know that in South Dakota, they will face relentless prosecution.”
FBI Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. added, “Stahlhoefer’s sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences for those who choose to harm our community through drug distribution. The FBI and its partners are committed to eradicating illegal drugs from our communities.”
The co-defendants were earlier sentenced as follows: Heather Stahlhoefer to 18 years, Marrowbone to 11 years, Mealer to six years, Larvie to four years and six months, and Rinehart to two years. Heath Choal’s sentencing is scheduled for September 2, 2025.
This case was investigated by the FBI’s Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Pierre Police Department, the Chamberlain Police Department, and the Lyman County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges prosecuted the case. Stahlhoefer has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
