Pierre Robinson, Murder, Chicago IL, 2023

CHICAGO – A Chicago street thug will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a federal jury found him guilty of a cold-blooded murder carried out to boost his status within a ruthless gang. Pierre Robinson, 29, of Chicago, received a life sentence from U.S. District Judge John J. Tharp, Jr., on March 6, 2023, for committing murder in aid of racketeering.

The jury delivered the guilty verdict in August 2022, following a four-day trial. Prosecutors laid out evidence showing Robinson gunned down Glenn Houston, Jr., on December 23, 2014, inside a store located in the 400 block of East 79th Street in the Chatham neighborhood. The motive? Pure ambition within the Evans Mob, a gang also known as “GuttaGang” and “Hitz Squad.”

The Evans Mob isn’t just a group of corner hustlers; it’s a criminal enterprise built on narcotics trafficking and a willingness to use extreme violence – including murder, attempted murder, and assault – to protect its turf on Chicago’s South Side. The gang brazenly flaunted its crimes, taking to social media to claim responsibility, taunt rivals, and actively obstruct law enforcement investigations.

The sentencing wasn’t limited to the Houston murder. Judge Tharp also determined that Robinson was involved in the murder and attempted murder of two other individuals, Hammood Dawoudi and DeShawn Danzler, on June 18, 2015. This reveals a pattern of calculated violence and a complete disregard for human life, all in the name of gang advancement.

The case was a joint effort led by U.S. Attorney John R. Lausch, Jr. for the Northern District of Illinois, Christopher C. Amon, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Albert Berry III and Margaret Steindorf prosecuted the case.

Robinson’s life sentence sends a clear message: in Chicago, and across the country, the federal government will not tolerate those who use violence to climb the ranks of criminal organizations. The streets are a little safer now that this predator is off them, and hopefully, this conviction will deter others from following the same destructive path.
