Pinson Gets 108 Months for Murder, Assault

A Wewoka, Oklahoma, man will spend nearly a decade behind bars for his role in two violent crimes, authorities announced.

Mattew Kyle Pinson, 37, was sentenced to 108 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter and assault, as well as a related federal firearm charge, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The charges arose from investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department.

Pinson pleaded guilty to the charges on July 25, 2023, and will serve his sentence concurrently for the manslaughter and firearm charges. He will, however, serve his sentence consecutively for the assault charge, which carries a 57-month sentence.

The crimes occurred in Seminole County, within the boundaries of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. On January 16, 2022, Pinson physically assaulted an individual, causing significant facial injuries that required surgery.

Three days later, on January 19, 2022, Pinson, a convicted felon, discharged a firearm, killing a second individual.

Pinson will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Erin Cornell represented the United States in the case.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearings.
