A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for using a gun during a drug deal. Larry Christopher Roberts, 48, was convicted of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to prosecutors, Roberts was involved in a crack cocaine distribution ring and possessed a firearm on June 4, 2015, in furtherance of that crime. The conviction stems from a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song commended the agencies involved in the investigation, saying they ‘led to the successful prosecution of Roberts’.
Roberts was sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort to prevent and prosecute gun crimes.
The investigation and prosecution of Roberts’ case highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking and gun violence in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
