Pittsburgh Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Cocaine, Stolen Gun Charge

A 36-year-old Pittsburgh man, Allen Gregory Edmonds, has landed five years behind bars after being convicted of possessing over 500 grams of cocaine and a stolen firearm. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the sentencing on Tuesday.

Edmonds, a resident of Pittsburgh, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. United States Senior District Judge Nora Barry Fischer handed down the sentence, which will be followed by four years of federal supervised release.

According to court documents, law enforcement executed federal search warrants on Edmonds, his vehicle, and properties associated with him on December 19, 2023. In the living room of his Pittsburgh residence, investigators discovered a backpack containing approximately two kilograms of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance. The closet within Edmonds’ bedroom contained a loaded handgun, which was later found to have been reported stolen.

Edmonds had a prior conviction in the Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County for both a felony drug trafficking offense and a felony firearm offense. Federal law strictly prohibits possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Edmonds.

Edmonds’ case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of cocaine trafficking and the consequences of possessing a stolen firearm. As the city of Pittsburgh continues to grapple with the issue of gun violence, cases like Edmonds’ highlight the need for stricter gun laws and increased law enforcement presence on the streets.

The successful prosecution of Edmonds is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors working together to keep our communities safe.
