Portland, Maine, 05/24/24 – The Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Tribe and the Indian Township Tribal Government have received a total of $2,278,604 in grants from the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) program to improve public safety and victim services in their communities.

The awards were made through the CTAS program, which is administered by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the Office of Justice Programs, and the Office on Violence Against Women. The CTAS program provides funding to tribal governments to enhance law enforcement practices, expand victim services, and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts.

The Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Tribe received $899,965, while the Indian Township Tribal Government received $1,378,639. The funding will be used to support a variety of initiatives, including public safety and community policing, justice systems planning, and services for victims of crime.

The Justice Department’s CTAS program is part of the department’s ongoing initiative to increase engagement, coordination, and action on public safety in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. American Indians experience disproportionate rates of violence and victimization, and the CTAS program helps tribes develop and strengthen their justice systems’ response to crime while expanding services to meet their communities’ public safety needs.
