Poplar Bluff Brothers Sentenced for Illicit Firearm Sales
Cape Girardeau, MO – In a significant blow to firearm trafficking, brothers David Hilton Rush and John Lyn Rush were sentenced to prison for their roles in illegally dealing in firearms.
According to court records, David Rush received a 36-month prison sentence, while his brother John Rush was handed a similar sentence of 36 months. The brothers appeared before United States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. in a sentencing hearing.
The sentencing comes after a jury trial in November, which revealed that the brothers were actively engaged in selling firearms between 2010 and 2014. Agents conducted a series of buys from each defendant using informants and undercover agents. Records show that during this time, John Rush alone sold more than 1,200 firearms.
A search warrant executed at John Rush’s residence resulted in the recovery of 71 firearms, which the Court ordered forfeited to the United States. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.
Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell and John N. Koester, Jr. handled the prosecution for the Government. The evidence presented during the trial highlighted the brothers’ involvement in the illicit firearm trade.
The sentencing of the Poplar Bluff brothers serves as a warning to those involved in firearm trafficking. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
