Man Sentenced for Assault in Porcupine, South Dakota

A Porcupine, South Dakota man has been sentenced for his role in a violent assault.

On October 2011, near Porcupine, Quentine Lone Elk, age 46, cut another man with a knife.

Lone Elk pled guilty to Assault by Striking, Beating, and Wounding on March 8, 2013.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy sentenced Lone Elk to 2 years of probation and ordered him to pay $10 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund on May 3, 2013.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

Lone Elk’s sentence marks the end of a long and tumultuous case. The incident in question left the victim with serious injuries, and the community is breathing a sigh of relief that justice has been served.
